NYC Men Teach is a citywide initiative aimed at increasing the number of men of color working as teachers in New York City public schools.

Its mission is to inspire young people, particularly boys of color, by providing them with strong role models who reflect their backgrounds and experiences.

The program also supports teacher recruitment, retention, and professional development to ensure these educators can thrive in the classroom and positively impact students’ lives.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) recognizes the academic achievement of college students and provides opportunities for its members to grow as scholars and leaders. Our college chapter, Beta Phi Gamma, is five start chapter. As a team we work to bring resources and build research skills with fellow students through research projects. Our mission is to recognize students hard work and achievements through a membership and connection to our Honor society.

- Our chapter, Beta Phi Gamma, is one of few schools with a grant that ensures all students who qualify for membership, memberships to Phi Theta Kappa will be paid for.

Mission
The United Men Of Color program, ‘UMOC’, was founded to help underrepresented men overcome the inequalities that lead to poor academic performance, and are associated with weak enrollment, retention, and graduation from higher education institutions. In addition, the UMOC program exists to provide a space where underserved and underrepresented men can feel empowered to find their individual voices as they navigate the college environment. UMOC also aims to develop a long lasting bond between scholars, program coordinators, and external program partners.

The United Men of Color (UMOC) program at Stella and Charles Guttman Community College is designed to provide an inclusive and supportive space where men of color, in particular, can receive academic support, mentoring, and have the opportunity to engage in social-cultural dialogue that will enhance their understanding of self and their relationship to different communities. At UMOC, our scholars participate in a variety of activities that include but are not limited to monthly workshops, community service projects, and program initiatives designed to build character and a sense of community amongst participants. UMOC is part of the larger CUNY Black Male Initiative umbrella.
